The Gardens and outdoor areas.

The house opens up onto a large wooden deck which surrounds the house with garden furniture. A separate, raised, 25 sqm sunset deck offers panoramic views over the gardens, the Cape peninsula and the ocean. Wander through the 8200 sqm grounds to discover a farm style dam surrounded by old forest trees under planted with Clivia flowers creating a meditative ambience. Zimbabwean stone sculptures are visible in selected beds. There are 2 outdoor showers, one immediately outside the bedrooms and another, larger waterfall shower is situated next to our sauna deck. The sauna has incredible views directly into the garden and is powered by a state of the art Finnish oven which heats to 85 degrees is 30 minutes. Stone benches offer seating opportunities and a park like atmosphere.

A private outdoor swimming pool (3 m x 5 m) with sun loungers, an umbrella and sea-views highlights this mountainside garden where many indigenous fynbos shrubs and flowers attract the endemic bird life.

There are hundreds of different plant species, grasses, indigenous trees, shrubs, protea, flowers and fruit trees and over 80 sqm of vegetable gardens.

Incredible vistas of north and south mountain ranges and of course the majestic Chapmans peak mountain create an incredible natural backdrop.

Conservation efforts include the propagation of some of the Capes most rare protea species such as the Silver Tree (Leucadendron Argenteum) of which our gardens are the proud host of over 100 specimens. We are proud to even have witnessed natural reproduction of these in the garden.

A large waterfall is located immediately beneath our sunset deck and circulates water from our farm dam through a waterway flowing through the heart of the garden. This feature creates a meditative ambiance and attracts wildlife.

A large greenhouse serves to propagate rare plant species and houses our collection of rare succulents in a vast array of Terracotta pots. The greenhouse can be viewed subject to appointment.

Kinghorns Farm gardens is therefore a combination of 1) a small botanical garden 2) a nature reserve and 3) a small food farm garden with harvesting activities for guests, workers and local communities.

The lower portion of the property houses a managers dwelling (not visible) , an owners cottage (also not visible), the greenhouse and compost areas.
